Voltaire

A sustainable vision, passed down since 1945

At Domaines Rouvinez, sustainability is not a recent trend. It is part of a family history that began in 1945, where each generation has sought to produce wines of character while respecting the Valais terroirs.

From the modest practices of the early days to the implementation of integrated production, then to the development of organic viticulture, this vision has been built continuously, through action and by example. Today, it translates into coherent, measurable, and forward-looking choices.

  • Approximately 60 ha organic, the rest according to integrated production specifications
  • 16% of bottles washed and reused
  • 150% of electricity needs covered by solar energy

Terroir & Character

Terroir is central to our approach.

In Valais, it expresses itself through exceptional geological and climatic diversity: calcareous, granitic, or morainic soils, strong temperature fluctuations, multiple exposures, and altitudes ranging from the plain to the highest hillsides.

This natural richness is enhanced by attentive and sustainable viticulture.

Generalized grassing, biodiversity preservation, maintenance of dry stone walls, and precise observation of each parcel help maintain living and balanced soils.

Each grape variety is planted where it expresses itself best. When the soil is alive and the vine well adapted to its terroir, the grapes gain in precision, freshness, and character.

A global responsibility, from vineyard to business

Sustainability is also expressed through technical and human choices, often invisible but essential. At Domaines Rouvinez, water, energy, and resources are managed with precision to limit environmental impact without compromising quality.

Drip irrigation is widespread on irrigable parcels, renewable energies largely cover the estate's needs, and electric mobility is gradually developing. Circularity is encouraged, particularly through the valorization of by-products and the reuse of bottles.

This approach is part of a local and human ecosystem: continuous training of teams, welcoming apprentices, regional partnerships, and commitment to the Valais cultural and social fabric.

Labels & Commitments

A terroir shaped by alpine climate

Valais benefits from a unique alpine climate, marked by strong thermal variations between day and night, particularly during the grape ripening period from August to October.

These variations promote the development of great aromatic richness while preserving an acidity essential to the balance of the wines.

With moderate precipitation, approximately 600 mm per year in Sierre, water management is a key challenge. Since 2004, a drip irrigation system has been installed across all parcels, allowing precise and controlled water supply according to the vine's needs.

The foehn, this warm and dry wind characteristic of Valais, also plays a beneficial role by limiting cryptogamic diseases and promoting berry concentration at the end of ripening.

Valais wine expertise

Our expertise in service of the terroir

Our wines are the result of precise work, carried out from vineyard to cellar with rigor and attention to detail.

Each parcel is observed, understood and cultivated according to its specificities, in order to best respect the expression of its terroir.

This approach continues during vinification, where each grape variety benefits from tailored care. Depending on the desired style, wines are aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit, or in Swiss oak barrels and casks to provide structure and complexity. This mastery allows us to create balanced, elegant wines that are true to their origin.
