Behind the scenes with Aliose, between stage, friendship and bottles from the heart

25/01/2022

Aliose is a Swiss singer-songwriter duo composed of Alizé Oswald and Xavier Michel. In 2009, the duo released their first album and has since performed successfully on stages throughout the country. They have established themselves as true representatives of French chanson in Switzerland. The duo has also toured outside Switzerland, performing in China, Nepal, Armenia, Argentina and England. Xavier agreed to be interviewed.

1. Which wine connects you to the Rouvinez family and why?

Family ties already connect us to the Rouvinez family, since my brother married a cousin of Frédéric, Philippe and Véronique. As for wine, I would say Cœur de Domaines Rouge, because when my brother-in-law (also from Valais) learned that our daughter Aïcéa was born, he was in the wine section of a department store, and he immediately bought a Cœur de Domaines to celebrate. It's waiting in the cellar for the right occasion to be shared.

2. "Like gangsters," you're fleeing the Rouvinez cellar. Which wine do you take with you?

We discovered the Rouvinez cellar at Colline de Géronde in 2013 during an Aliose concert for a triple birthday celebration where we were invited to perform. A lovely moment of which we have fond memories! We would leave with a Tourmentin. We enjoy giving Swiss wine to our French friends. We had actually brought some to Maxime Le Forestier and his family, I remember. When we visit their country house, we bring a different selection from a Swiss winery we appreciate each time. We almost exclusively buy Swiss wine.

3. Do you drink wine before or after a concert? Which one?

Before and after! I would say a Château Lichten, that way in one answer we're already drinking two wines, the Petite Arvine Château Lichten before, excellent, and the Château Lichten Rouge blend after... But the real tradition in the Aliose team is a glass of whisky before going on stage!
Is it already time to leave? Well, alright, one more little Echappée beer for the road, while packing up the equipment... 😉

4. Which wine did you miss during your 2011 tour in China?

Let's say the little Heida for aperitif! Probably the Rouvinez wine my brother served us most often. A funny anecdote, I can't quite remember why but we had eaten a (cheese) fondue in Beijing, at the Swissôtel, accompanied of course by a Fendant, but I can't remember which one. We also ate, I can't remember where, in Guangzhou or Wuhan I think, a Chinese fondue with meat we had trouble identifying, which we had never tasted before anyway, and strange mushrooms... A Rouvinez Cornalin would have been perfect that day.

5. For which wine would you be willing to do something crazy?

For a Cœur de Domaines Blanc. But a Jéroboam, for something truly crazy! And it remains to be seen what that crazy thing would be...
